Dr. Hikmat Matar is a highly experienced Consultant General & Laparoscopic Surgeon with over 28 years of expertise in the field. Based in Abu Dhabi since 1994, he has been a pioneer in Laparoscopic Surgery within the private sector. With a career spanning over 18,000 procedures, Dr. Matar specializes in a wide range of surgeries, including Bariatric (Obesity Surgery), gastric balloon, gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, omega loop, and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty.
In addition to bariatric surgery, Dr. Matar’s expertise also includes thyroid, breast, gall bladder, appendix surgeries, hernia repairs, fistula treatment, intestinal surgery, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and colon surgery.
Dr. Matar graduated from Donetsk Medical University, Ukraine (USSR) in 1987, and completed his internship in Lebanon in 1988. He pursued his residency at the same university in Ukraine, graduating in 1992. In 1993, he defended his Ph.D. in General Surgery in Moscow, Russia, specializing in optimal surgical procedures and intensive care for patients with obstructive jaundice. Dr. Matar has also served as an Assistant Professor, delivered numerous lectures, and published several papers, along with professional rational patents.
